Let’s get physical! Top 5 best active date ideas in London

Skating
When most of us think of a date, it normally involves a drink, dinner, maybe even a show or an exhibition. But there’s nothing like getting the heart pumping when it comes to dating.

Whoa there people… we mean an active date, where you put on your trainers, rollerskates or skis and go for it, fully expecting to make at least a small fool out of yourself in the process.

If you’re both active and competitive or just like to have fun and a giggle, pull on you shorts. We’ve been doing some brain aerobics and have pulled together a few active ideas to give you some inspiration:

Crazy Golf
Yes, you can dress up in a flat cap and golfing shorts if the feeling takes you guys but looking silly isn’t mandatory. We’ll be honest, a full man-size golf course is a bit much for a date, especially if you’re a novice but crazy golf is fun, informal and great to get to know someone. Courses are dotted all over the capital, including spots in Chiswick, Northwick Park, Soho, Kensington and Shoreditch. The best one? It has to be Jurassic Encounter in New Malden. This is an 18-hold adventure-style mini course, featuring waterfalls, island greens, pre-historic caves and roaring dinosaurs to boot. It’s also floodlit for evening sessions.

Bikram yoga
We concede that this might be some people’s idea of hell but apparently you feel amazing afterwards. Basically this is a yoga class in a hot room. A very hot room. Be warned that it is a very sweaty affair and you will have to wear some sort of skimpy clothing, so perhaps it is best saved for date three onwards. The upside? You will be filled with energy afterwards and if the date isn’t great, you will have done something good for your bod. There are dedicated studios in Soho, Victoria and Canary Wharf.

Roller Disco
Wanna feel like your nine years old again? Head to Roller Disco, held at the Renaissance Rooms in Vauxhall. Whether you’re a complete beginner or pro skater, you are guaranteed a fun-packed time. It’s basically clubbing on wheels and you can even wear luminous legwarmers. There’s funky house music, seventies hits and soul grooves and if you fall over, fret not, a man in a pinny will rescue you (yes, you did read that right).

Horse-riding

It worked for Clint Eastwood and Zorro; they looked hot on horseback, so it could work for you too. You don’t even need to leave central London to try it. Head over to Hyde Park Stables and enjoy the views of the Serpentine Gallery, The Queen Elizabeth Gate and the views of the park while mounted on one of London’s finest horses. Be warned thought; it’s not cheap but a great day out for a special occasion or person.

Table Tennis
Based in Holborn, Bounce Ping Pong allows you to embrace your inner Andy Murray or Serena Williams. There are 13 tables, bats and balls and lots of gin on offer to give you that helping hand – or not. A winning combination for sure, especially if you’re the competitive type.
