Magical Christmas dates in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of the best places in the world to experience Christmas festivities. The American TV network CNN named the Hong Kong WinterFest as one of the top 10 places to spend Christmas in the whole world, so if you are dating in the city this December there are fantastic displays, fine food and plenty more events to enjoy. Here are our top five favourites:

Disney09.21.53Hong Kong Disneyland’s Sparkling Christmas

The entire park on Lantau Island will be hosting Christmas-themed fun and entertainment, right up until January 4. The theme for this year’s event is all about sparkling lights and the event present a new technology they call ‘Disney Paint the Night’, where computerised floats with almost a million LED lights and optical fibres will be interactive with the spectators. There will also be a magnificent tree, parties, parades with Mickey and Minnie Mouse and their friends and fireworks.

WinterFestHong Kong Winterfest

Running until January 1, this annual event organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board is back with a bang. Featuring glittering skyscrapers and laser images, the city is aglow with festive images. If Victoria Harbour wasn’t striking enough on a normal day, it really comes to life during Winterfest. As always, the centrepiece in Statue Square will be the season’s icon and this year it is a dazzling Christmas tree. There will be a programme of seasonal events to run alongside it and you can also make holiday memories by adding a ‘Love Lock’ to seal your romance.

3DHong Kong Pulse 3D Light Show

Coinciding with Hong Kong WinterFest, Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival and the Chinese New year celebrations, this spectacular 3D light show has exciting audiovisual effects and takes place at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Clock tower at Tsim Sha Tsui. Shows take place at 8.30pm, 9pm, 9.30pm and 10pm nightly, through until the Chinese New year celebrations in March 2015. The content will depend on the evening but the first ones, which took place back in October were themed around old Hong Kong with images of historic steam trains.

OceanParkOcean Park Hong Kong Christmas Sensation

Running until January 4, Hong Kong’s Ocean Park will be hosting a huge array of Christmas fun, including the largest indoor light display in the city, called the Ocean of Light. There will be a 70-foot Christmas tree on the Waterfront Plaza, Christmas Candyland, street shows at the Summit, Santa feeding the fish at the Gramn Aquarium and much more to see! The perfect festive date for the big kids amongst you!

NutcrackerThe Nutcracker

The Hong Kong Ballet, alongside local children from the Hong Kong community, are performing this Christmas classic, telling the story of Clara and her Prince, the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Snowflakes in this captivating classic, set to the magical music of Tchaikovsky. The performances, at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, run until December 28. This is a stunning ballet that is perfect for the season.
