So who has been following the Commonwealth Games? You can’t help but marvel at the super talented in all their super fit n’ firm glory, right? Has it inspired you to go and don some Lycra and acquaint yourself with the local pool or track..and all their regulars too?
The thing about athletes is they are pretty fit, pretty determined and pretty dedicated so whether you have a super-sporty type in your sights, or are indeed Mr and Mrs Sporty yourself, here are our top 6 winning reasons why dating an athlete gets the gold!
1. They help you stay in shape: This has to be one of the best reasons of all to date an athlete, right? They will help you fight the flab. One study showed that couples that exercise together have higher success rates than those who go at it alone. The research found that nearly half of people who exercise on their own quit their exercise regime after a year, but two-thirds of those who work out with their partner stick to it. And if you’re a girl, even better – apparently women work 12 to 15 per cent harder when they are training with a partner!
2. They’ll be a good teammate: Athletes often play in teams so it goes without saying that they are great team players. They will happily help with household chores, decision-making and be happy to “take one for the team” from time to time. Result!
3. They’re competitive: Nothing like a bit of competition when it comes to having fun, right? Whether it’s a friendly round of Scrabble or some sort of sporting challenge, you can be guaranteed spot the glint in their eye. Tip: Occasionally, it might pay to let them win.
4. They will eat well: Are you trying to break your cheeseburger habit? Many couples find that over time if they are in a comfortable relationship, they start to pile on the pounds. Not with an athlete, they will usually always eat well and help you make healthy choices, too.
5. They are intelligent: In one recent study, the average athlete was found to possess above average IQs. Another scientific study found they had a special form of intelligence – the ability to process and react to complex and rapidly changing visual cues. Sounds impressive, right?
6. They rock in bed: According to one study, the average elite athlete has sex 3.4 times a week, which according to the famous research by Alfred Kinsey, is twice the national average. See, another great reason to get fit!
