New Year! New You? Sound familiar? Of course it does. Most people are determined to make – and keep – some resolutions when the New Year comes in and often, we make resolutions to do with our love lives, be it to date more, date better or simply start dating. Here are six resolutions to think about and keep this New Year:
1. Be more proactive online: When you are online dating, to get the best results be more proactive. Send more messages, wink at more members and keep your profile up to date. Like dating in real life, online dating is a numbers game. The more people you engage with, the more likely you are to strike lucky. Give yourself an aim, like sending ten messages a week and try to stick to it.
2. Refresh your photos: Why do you have an old picture of you circa 2011 lingering on your profile? Time to get some more recent snaps up pronto. Added to this is that people might pass over you if they’ve seen your pictures before but if you add new ones, you’ll exude ‘new boy’ or ‘new girl’ status – and will probably attract more attention as a result. Consider professional shots from profile picture pros: Saturday Night’s Alright.
3. Live in the present: Sometimes we fast-forward a first date, thinking about whether we can imagine introducing the person to our parents/hopping into bed with them. When you meet someone for the first time focus on meeting a new person, without thinking about what’s going to happen in the future. If you take the pressure off the meeting, you’ll be more relaxed and more likely to show off your true personality.
4. Say ‘yes’ to someone who isn’t your type: If you’ve got a long list of requirements but haven’t met the right person yet, it might be worth looking outside the box. Say ‘yes’ to at least one person who you would never normally consider. You never know what might happen…
5. Try new things: Make 2015 the year to try new things, be it cooking classes, seeing an exhibition every month or trying a new sport. You are more likely to expand your social circle this way, which will give you a higher chance of meeting someone you click with. Are you sick of meeting dates for a drink after work? Take your date to tackle your new adventures with you.
6. Say goodbye to bad dating habits: Do you always find yourself in faltering relationships or drawn to people that you know are not good for you? Resolve to approach things differently this year. Think about your past relationships and the reasons why they have gone wrong and learn from the previous mistakes.
