For some, that period between Christmas and New Year is a rather strange one. Fab as holiday’s are, everyone is bloated from too much food but still going on those turkey sarnies, suffering from ‘sofa-itis’ – that’s the inability to rouse themselves from the sofa and it generally feels like anything that starts before 2pm, is practically the middle of the night. If you’re dating in London and need some inspiration to get you off the sofa, away from the Quality Street and out of the house, here are some date ideas to drag you from the sofa and get you excited:
Described as “magical”, “enchanting” and “straight from the heart” by the critics, Matthew Bourne’s dance production at Sadler’s Wells theatre takes a fresh look at this modern fairy-tale. Based on the 1990 Tim Burton film and featuring the music of Danny Elfman and Terry Davies, this bittersweet love story tells the tale of a boy always destined to be an outsider. We don’t know about you, but we think this is one show where we’ll need to take the Kleenex with us!
Astronomy Photographer of the Year
Based at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, this exhibition showcases the incredible shortlisted images for photographers all around the world. This is the sixth annual showcase and there were a record number of submissions. Expect to see awe-inspiring psychedelic auroras, meteor showers and the centre of the Heart Nebula, divided into four categories – ‘Our Solar System’, ‘Deep Space, ‘Earth and Space’ and ‘Young Astrologer of the Year’ for under 16s. The show runs until February 22, 2015.
Taking place on December 29, this is a festive two-hour walk through some of London’s best Christmas illuminations. Setting off from the Nelson’s Column side of Trafalgar Square and led by young architect Ike Ijeh, expect to be entertained, blow off the cobwebs and keep that Christmas feeling a little bit longer…
Fancy dressing up in some ‘80s roller-disco gear and behaving like you’re aged ten again? Then head to Bump Roller Disco at Victoria Park’s Winterville can literally get your skates on and impress your date with your cool moves. Running from between Christmas and New Year, sessions last for about three hours and there are special club nights, so check the website for all the latest info.
Are you a fan of the bear from deepest Peru? Running until December 30, the NSPCC has teamed up with a host of designers, celebrities and artists to create 50 Paddington Bear statues all over the capital. The designers include Julie Walters, David Beckham, Ben Whishaw, Emma Watson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Boris Johnson and Darcey Bussell. Download the official map and see how may you can find…
