Altogether now: “Awwww”. We know it’s not Valentine’s Day or anything but we thought we’d get romantic on you and suggest a few ideas to help you show that special person in your life that you really appreciate them and make them feel loved..
We’ve done a quick straw poll of our nearest and dearest and come up with the following list:
Random acts of affection: Yes, when you’ve been together a while, those hugs, kisses and leg squeezes tend to go out of the window, so ring the changes by randomly hugging your other half when they have just woken up, are washing the dishes or brushing their teeth. Everyone loves a bit of affection once in a while.
Send a nice tweet: While we’re not suggesting you have one of those weird PDAs on Twitter, a public show of affection once in a while to your army of followers is fine – and a sweet gesture. #justkeepitclean #soppyisok
Write a love note: A recent study showed the age of chivalry is dead – and only half of men have ever written a love letter, so c’mon guys and girls, get out that pen and write some heartfelt words. The Mr or Mrs in your life will love it. Even a note saying ‘Have a good day’ will make them smile.
Cook dinner and then wash up: In most households, the chores are shared, so if you want to surprise your partner, go all Gordon Ramsay and cook a feast for them and then offer to don the marigolds as well, while they put their feet up. You’ll be in their good books for weeks.
Plan a fun day out: Between the pressures of studying/work/friends/household chores, sometimes random dates get lost along the way, so plan a whole day of fun. It doesn’t have to be expensive or showy, just something you’ll both enjoy.
Remember the small stuff: So he was worried about a presentation at work or she had an argument with one of her friends? Listen to your partner, even if the presentation sounds boring and the friend-issue is never-ending. Making notes of the small stuff will show how much you support them.
Big them up: Remember how much you used to love his abs? Or worship her lips? Compliment your spouse on their best bits and it will make them feel amazing! And if you stroke their ego in the bedroom, you’re almost guaranteed more sex.
Laugh at their jokes: Their repertoire may be terrible but don’t take yourself too seriously. Laughing is infectious and helps to create a connection.
Help with the house: Men, put the seat down, hang your towels up and throw your pants in the laundry. Ladies, don’t drop your shoes and clothes everywhere, hide your shopping bags and clean out the bath after your de-fuzzing sessions. See? Everyone’s happy!
Surprise each other: Unexpected gifts are great so buy her a bunch of flowers and send them to her work, or surprise him with some tickets to a gig he has been talking about for ages. They will love it.
