Monday’s weekly woo: What’s hot this week?

So yes, it is Monday again – boo. But a whole week stretching before us means there’s seven days of glorious dating to enjoy (yay!)  What’s to do? Lots to do.

Here’s our scoop of the best ideas to help you woo this week…

JurassicMovies: Jurassic World Time: 2hrs 4mins

So dinosaurs might not be everyone’s bag o’ popcorn, but this film isn’t just for kids you know. It really scared us big kids, frankly. So, Speilberg returns as a executive producer this time round but his inimitable talent is all over this film.  The same tropical island in Jurassic Park has now become a theme park for tourists who have grown bored of the seeing the same old dino’s – as you do. They want something bigger, better, scarier and so the park has created some special genetic hybrids (the huge ‘Mosasaurus for example, is fed great white sharks). Frankly, they all deserve to become ‘monster munch’, but this film is visually wow, gathers pace and is incredibly tense and scary at times (you might find your date in your lap). It offers the right mix of funny thanks to hunky actor Chris Packs and the chemistry he shares with co-star Bryce Dallas Howard.

RASummer Exhibition – Royal Academy of Arts until 16th August.

Culture vulture date? Art critic in the making? Or just love brushing up on what names are hot news in the art world? Whatever draws you to the Summer Exhibition, it promises to offer you both a  visual feast! You’ll find meticulous realism to wild abstraction, renowned international names to complete unknowns along side cutting-edge young artists. The work is not labelled here so you must grab a booklet to see who created your favourite pieces..oh, and wear comfy shoes. You’ll cover some floor space, the place is huge! Enjoy the talent!

HackneyLickGot it licked:

With the warmer weather set to return this week, we’re all for cold comforts in the hot city so cooling off with an ice cream makes a wonderfully chilled date idea. Head to Hackney..as what Hackney duo Sam Newman and Enrico Pavoncelli don’t know about ice cream ain’t worth a lick. The pair set up Hackney Licks last summer using a winning blend of traditional Italian techniques and recipes with an English twist. All the tasty classics can be found here but if you and your date are feeling more creative, why not try the bacon and avocado..? Watch this space for our scoop of the best ice cream’s in town, coming soon…

BoyhoodStaying In: Boyhood Sky Movies Premiere Friday 9.35pm

Ok, if romantic movies are too cliche and you’re not in the mood for action movies then Boyhood is something different. If you didn’t catch this at the cinema, this labour of love movie (it was filmed from 2002 – 2013) deserves a look! Written and directed by Richard Linklater, the movie depicts the adolescence of Mason (Ellar Coltrane) as he grows up in Texas US.  Unscripted from the outset, Linklater allowed Coltrane to dictate the movie subjects and themes from his own personal experience/views.  A real coming of age movie,  Boyhood won Best Motion Picture and six Academy Awards and makes a fab thought-provoking sofa date.
