Right, who is bored of cheap sickly chocolates, romantic trips on the London Eye and other schmaltzy date ideas? This Valentine’s Day ditch the balloons, flowers and dodgy teddy bears and surprise your date with a slightly more original idea.

RoyalAlbertLive Music Brunch

Head to the Royal Albert Hall for brunch at their Verdi – Italian Kitchen and tuck into your food, while being serenaded by La Vie en Rose, a gypsy jazz group. The performance sees one fiddle, a pair of guitars and a bass come together top create renditions of classis by jazz’s finest musicians with a unique twist. Brunch is served on February 14th from 11.30am and music starts at 12noon.

 

GreatHallValentine’s Dinner in The Great Hall

Taking place on both Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th February, Harry Potter Studios are hosting a Valentine’s dinner in the Great Hall. Tickets are not cheap (£495 for a pair) but for this you can expect welcome Love Potion cocktails and nibbles, before taking to your individual table for two and tucking onto a delicious three-course dinner. The event also includes after-hours access to the studio tour and the chance to see the Gryffindor common room, Dumbledore’s office, the Weasley kitchen and other famous sets before enjoying a drink on Platform 9 ¾. After-dinner tea, coffee and chocolates will take place at the Hogwarts castle model and the night concludes with guests collecting their chosen wands.

 

PromValentine’s 80s Prom

Taking place at the Grand Union Brixton on February 13th, from 7pm is this blinder of a date! Dig out your best frills, neons and fingerless gloves for the Gran Union Valentine’s ‘80s prom. Expect a prom photographer, spiked punch, a crowning of the Prom King and Queen and plenty of ‘80s tunes for you and your date to dance along to, all night long!

 

briefValentine’s Weekend Concert: Brief Encounter

Head to the legendary Cadogan Hall on February 13th to see Brief Encounter, one of the most romantic films of all times. The screening is preceded by a performance of Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto, which features throughout the film, played by Russian pianist Alexander Karpeyev and the Amadeus Orchestra.

 

CahootsCahoots Presents a Very Squiffy Valentine’s Day Picnic

Underground cocktail bar Cahoots is putting on one of their regular Sunday Squiffy Picnics with a Valentine’s twist. Kicking off on February 14th and running from 3pm, you can expect one of three special hampers packed with picnic snacks treats and fancies. Choose from the ‘Spivs & Scoundrels’, ‘Starlets & Sirens’ and ‘Aristocrats and Fat Cats’.
