If you’re sick of going to the same drinking dens and fancy something different, London does pop-ups bars pretty darn well. With bags of originality and knowledge, they aren’t going to be sticking around forever, but make fab summer date venues. Hot date? You can’t go too wrong with something icy and cold. Here are our top picks:
Located on the new rooftop garden of Oxford Street’s John Lewis, this Neapolitan restaurant and bar showcases a delicious menu of authentic Italian dishes, including Saltimbocca – ‘pizza panini’; Rotolini – ‘pizza wraps’; and Spiedini – ‘mozzarella skewers’. There is also a large cocktail and drinks menu. Head here before August 31.
The Boulangerie Francois Terrace
Running until September 6, visitors can enjoy the ultimate Grey Goose Martini experience at London’s Boulangerie Francois Terrace on the fifth floor of Harvey Nichols. Featuring a French menu and summer martinis, there is also a series of Grey Goose martini masterclasses.
Based at Brunel Museum’s Roof Garden, this was voted as one of London’s best pop-up cocktail bars since it opened in 2012. Here every Saturday until September, you and your date can enjoy plant-powered cocktails created by the Cocktail Gardener, while watching the sunset over the river.
Based in The Vaults at Waterloo, this immersive and theatrical pop-up bar celebrates 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. With its own cast, installations, aerial acrobats, DJs, live music, art, food from Pieminster and cocktails from Bourne and Hollingsworth. The bar is open until 2am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Runs til August 31.
Here until August 16, Little Nan’s Cocktail Den offers guests two hours of bottomless teapots of cocktails and unlimited pic ‘n’ mix. Based underneath a restaurant on Curtain Road in Shoreditch and with capacity for just 31 people, this makes a very fun and intimate first date option.
The Queen of Hoxton’s year-round rooftop is transformed into Smokin’ Graciela’s Rooftop Bar until September, in honour of the 80-year-old Cuban diva, Graciela. Expect a colourful evening of traditional Cuban street food, rum and dominoes.
Taking place on Wednesday August 12, Thursday September 3 and Thursday September 17 is a pop-up summer-themed party. Embark on an edible vacation, where you will be treated to a three-course holiday-inspired culinary whirlwind.
Popping up for the summer months, the Folly is hosting this new pop-up cocktail hub, serving vodka with an array of seasonings and spices. Book a Bloody Mary masterclass, Bloody Mary Brunch or just pop in for a drink.
Throughout the summer, Doodle Bar hosts a series of ticketed summery lunches offering experimental dining on the outdoor terrace, with residences from the likes of Crayfish Bob and Mama’s Jerk Station.
Following a successful six-week rooftop residency at Madison Bar & Restaurant, Carom is re-locating Thameside and partnering with Butlers Wharf Chophouse to host a Spice Garden until the end of September. Expect a signature tandoor dishes, tiffin tins and small plates, along with Indian-inspired cocktails, from 12noon to 10pm every day.
