If you’re anything like us, present buying for that special someone can be a complete nightmare. I normally find myself running around the shops on Christmas Eve with the rest of the world, trying to find the perfect gifts. It’s normally freezing outside and boiling inside, so it can be one very sweaty event.
The stress is also immense; one occasion I even saw two men wrestling over the last women’s handbag in one shop and it almost came to blows until a scared-looking shopping assistant miraculously appeared with another one. The moral of the tale: don’t leave it until the last minute and have lots of ideas in the bag.
We’ve decided to make your life easy and have listed our top five (his and hers) Christmas present ideas.
For Him
Apple TV (£99; www.apple.com)
If your man doesn’t have Apple TV in his life, this could be the perfect gift. Along with providing access to the iTunes Store and iTunes Match, it also allows you to beam video, audio and games to a TV from any iOS device.
Soundmagic E10 Earphones (£30; www.amazon.co.uk)
These headphones have got a pretty modest price-tag and punch well above their weight when it comes to audio detail. A great choice for the music-loving commuter.
Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine (£457; www.amazon.co.uk)
Most men love to start their morning with a coffee and this is a great starter machine for an espresso lover. It doesn’t use those fiddly capsules and has a real solid, retro look.
Men’s Manicure Set (£75; www.aspinaloflondon.com)
Women like men with beautifully groomed fingers and let’s face it guys, which of you hasn’t longed for tidy nails once in a while? This handmade case is mock croc Italian calf leather and lined with suede.
Glenfiddich Malt Whisky (£38; www.glenfiddich.com)
The Scots do many things well, including kilt-wearing – and if you’re going to buy booze for your man, opt for Glenfiddich whisky. Perfect on ice in front of the fire with your feet up.
For Her
Jo Malone Christmas Stocking (£180; www.jomalone.co.uk)
This is one stocking every girl would love at the end of her bed. It contains a bottle of their famed Pomegranate Noir Cologne, a Pomegranate Noir Travel Candle and Lime and a bottle of Basil & Mandarin Body & Hand Lotion.
Eve Lom Kiss Mix Star (£16; uk.spacenk.com)
Whether you hang it on the tree, put it in a stocking or wrap it up, this pretty star contains lip balm to nourish tired lips. Afterwards you can insist on a kiss!
Mulberry Pink Glossy Goat Luggage Tag (£70; www.mulberry.com)
This cute, functional and bright tag can be used on luggage and bags everywhere. It also hints at exciting weekends away – so if things are going well, a Valentine’s Day getaway might be on the cards.
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt (£9; www.amazon.co.uk)
When it comes to the ‘Big Novel’ of the year, no one beats this heavy tome by the author of phenomenal bestsellers The Secret History and The Little Friend. Read it too, so you can talk about it and impress your partner.
Return to Tiffany Bracelet (£130; www.tiffany.co.uk)
I don’t think you can go too wrong with this gorgeous bracelet, inspired from a design in 1969. The special blue box in itself will get her very excited but maybe steer clear if she might be expecting a ring!
