We don’t know about you but we think that one of the best things about the festive season is the fact that we get to eat a lot of mince pies. Some of us (mentioning no names) probably chomp through more than Santa.
If you are a lover of the small n’ sweet festive pie, here are the best places you can take a date to enjoy a top notch mincey along with a festive coffee – hmm hmm hmm.
There are six Konditor & Cook stores but the main one located in the foodie heaven of Stoney Street in Borough Market, so could round-off a fab date, with one of their top notch mince pies. They also serve brownies, cupcakes, every type of cake you could imagine, so whatever your sugar craving, you can satisfy it here. They also run a cake school from this store, where you and your date can take a class where you can learn to make sponges, brownies and Christmas treats.
With cafes in Bloomsbury, St Paul’s and Farringdon you are never too far from a famous Bea’s. This bakery’s mantra is ‘life is short, eat more cake’ and we couldn’t agree more. Mince pies ‘a la Bea’s’ as they are called are controversially lidless but packed with rummy spiced fruits and made with ‘one ounce of love, two pinches of care, a fistful of Christmas and a heap of knowhow.’ Sounds like perfection to us!
Café in the Crypt, St Martin’s In The Field
With a host of free lunchtime concerts and carol events, this café is the perfect place to escape from a busy day out at the capital and take in some music before tucking into a mince pies and mulled wine. The café, located in a stunning 18-century vaulted crypt, is also serving Christmas lunch with all the trimmings and Christmas pudding from December 8 to December 24.
If you are looking to really push the boat out, book a festive afternoon tea at The Dorchester. Kicking off with a glass of Lauren-Perrier fizz, finger sandwiches, scones with homemade pastry and seasonal ham and a selection of Christmas pastries, cakes and mince pies follow. This is the perfect way to wind down after an afternoon of Christmas or sales shopping. Teas are available every weekday until January 2.
Head to Brompton Food Market’s beautiful Winter Garden, where you can curl up under a sheepskin rug, with one of their giant mince pies packed with fruit to munch on, alongside a tea or coffee. Just a few minutes walk from the Natural History Museum or V&A; this would make the perfect stop, mid-date to re-fuel.
Do you love mince pies as much as we do? (Oh no you don’t!)
