Lovestruckers, have you kissed some frogs? C’mon, we’re all friends here. It’s fine to admit that that guy at Uni had funny hair and bad breath, or that girl you dated last year had bad manners and buck teeth.
So the saying goes that women have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your prince and according to new research, the average woman will kiss 15 men, have two long-term relationships and have her heart broken twice, before meeting ‘The One’. She will also have four awful dates, been in love twice, will have had four one nightstands and be stood up once.
In a study of 2000 people to mark the paperback release of The Rosie Project, the detailed story of one man’s quest to find his perfect wife, the results showed that in their search for love, men will be stood up twice and have six one night stands. Men will also go on eight dates, have three blind dates and meet three people online.
According to the research men will have ten sexual partners, compared to an average of seven for women. Men will also have six relationships, with two lasting more than 12 months. Both men and women face being cheated on once.
If your dating journey hasn’t been without its ups and downs, fear not because six out of ten people questioned said they thought they might never meet ‘The One’ and 59 per cent said they thought the journey was a difficult one.
Interestingly eight out of ten people said they met ‘The One’ when they least expected it – and listen up, more than a quarter felt their current partner wasn’t their ‘normal type’, with more than a half saying their partner was the complete opposite to them.
Author Graeme Simsion said: “It’s a reminder that the path to finding a life partner can be a long and rocky one – and indeed is for most of us.
“All of the disaster dates, mismatched relationships and awkward one night stands can leave many feeling like they are never going to meet their soul mate.
“But there’s an annoying yet wonderful randomness about it. All those calamities, false starts and heartbreaks never knowing when or if or how ‘The One’ is going to appear in your life.’
