Either way, ice-skating makes a top romantic date and with Christmas just around the corner, we’ve pulled together the very best ice rink suggestions in London:
Running until January 11, Somerset House makes the most magical skating backdrop. The 900-square foot rink also plays host to some top DJs after dark, so you can crank up the speed and show off your best axels and toe loops. There are also lots of extras there, including the Fortnum’s Lodge offering champagne, afternoon tea and private dining and the Skate School and Penguin Club for those hoping for some extra tuition.
This rink is huge and has a unique skate path taking you and your date away from the action, under trees lit with fairy lights and back onto the main rink. The onsite bar, Boisdale, sells drinks and has an outdoor viewing terrace, where non-skaters can watch the fun. Make sure you save some energy to browse the Canary Wharf Christmas Market, where wooden chalets are filled with festive food, drinks original handicrafts and unique gifts. Runs until February 27.
This open-air rink is situated in front of the London Eye and there are various packages on offer to skate and head into one of the Eye’s famous pods to admire London in all its festive glory. Runs until January 4.
Running to January 4, Winter Wonderland is one of London’s best festive offerings. The Lycamobile ice rink is set around a Victorian bandstand and illuminated by over 100,000 lights so is literally, glittering. Stop off afterwards at the Bavarian village for beer and bratwurst, check out the Giant Observatory Wheel and two circuses or visit the Magical Ice Kingdom.
Natural History Museum Ice Rink
Skate around the huge Christmas tree with the stunning museum in the background. Open from morning until nighttime until January 4, this is another great rink for a date. Afterwards head to the café bar for a hot chocolate and mince pie. Enjoy!
The perfect skating date when it miserable and rainy outside, Westfield’s atrium has been transformed into the huge rink. There is DJ sessions, liver performances and lessons available – not to mention 70 restaurants to choose from once you have built up a big of an appetite. Booking is recommended. Runs until January 3.
Running from December 2 to New Year’s Eve, Victoria Park plays host to a 600-square-metre outdoor rink, which is also covered if it rains – hurray! Also on site are a roller-disco, Santa’s Grotto, romantic horse-drawn carriage rides and a fairground.
