It’s Halloween and we think a good old horror flick can make the perfect date movie. Grabbing a hand, burying your face in his or her chest and hiding beneath their jumper is perfectly acceptable – and studies have shown that scary films promote bonding. We’ve listed out top five horror flicks of all time:
American Psycho (2000)
What happens: A wealthy guy living in Manhattan has it all: looks, money and style. But as well as dining in exclusive restaurants and partying in clubs, he also indulges in another transgression – and people close to him keep disappearing.
Good for: People who don’t like ghouls but are more into psychological creepies. Guys, not one for the date if you have lots of money, impeccable grooming habits and sharp suits.
28 Days Later (2002)
What happens: The plot depicts the breakdown of society following the accidental release of a highly contagious virus and focuses upon the struggle of four survivors to cope with the destruction of the life they once knew, where the streets of London are populated by hordes of zombie-like humans.
Good for: Fans of the zombie genre, as this film is credited with sparking a revival.
The Shining (1980)
What happens: Aspiring writer Jack Torrance, played by Jack Nicholson accepts a job as a caretaker at the Overlook Hotel during an icy winter so he can write his book. But the hotel has a dark history that soon begins to worm its way into the present through the medium of his psychic son, Danny.

The Exorcist (1973)
What happens: A young girl’s imaginary friend turns out to be the devil who starts to possess her and her mother desperately tries to win her back through an exorcism conducted by two priests.
Good for: A bit of vintage horror. The film was nominated for 10 Oscars and is still considered as one of the best scary flicks of all time.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
What happens: Two friends visiting their grandfather’s old house are hunted down and terrorised by a chainsaw-wielding killer and his family of grave-robbing cannibals.
