She should be so lucky…lucky lucky lucky, but the very beautiful Kylie Minogue remains pretty unlucky in love. In fact, of her single status, Miz Minogue recently said that, ‘dating guys that were too good looking is where I’m going wrong.” Kylie went on to declare that dating a grey haired guy with a pot-belly might be the key to finding true happiness. Yeah sure, Kylie. But it got us thinking….has she actually got a point?
Here’s why we think Kylie’s idea of giving ‘normal’ people a chance is a good thing when it comes to finding long-lasting-love…
In your league: Do beautiful people only seek other beautiful people? Studies suggest many of us think we’re better looking than we actually are (who dear, us dear? No dear.) OK, so ever clicked the seeking ‘athletic type’ box when you are a coach potato? How many of us actively search keywords: ‘large frame,’ ‘cuddly’ or ‘average’? We’d all love a hottie on our arm wouldn’t we, but why? Be honest with yourself. Is it to impress others? Are we programmed by the media to think we need to step out with the gorgeous or are you just not turned on by anyone not possessing the supermodel gene? Whatever the reason, if it’s not working for you it could be time to rethink your dating model.
Are they really all that? Ok, on the surface they are buff, tanned, taut, gleaming of mane, head-turning and drop-dead yum. Hmm, that already smacks of high maintenance. It’s good to look after yourself, yes, but here you run the risk of dating someone who has a better relationship with the mirror than you. Strip it all away and get beneath the (fake tanned) skin – how do they treat you? Do they always expect you to be well turned out too? Do they mock your lack of fashion sense? Do they drop hints or suggest changing your looks, clothes, hair? Do you see where we’re going…?
You’ll be more at ease: Can you ever really relax around beautiful people? Good looks also attract others too and who wants to spend a date checking out who’s checking them out? So your ‘average date’ might not turn every head in the room but at least you won’t have to worry about members of the opposite sex cracking on as soon as you head to the loo! Neither will you catch them checking out their reflection in the dessert spoon when you’re trying to talk deep and meaningful. You have their attention, and they have yours. Enjoy, relax and get to really know each other!
You can be yourself: OK, we’ve already stopped sucking our stomach in. That’s better. The trouble with bagging a hot date is that you may feel pressured to keep up. Nobody wants to hear people whisper ‘how did they manage to get that?’ as you walk pass. All in good time: Looks fade. Good, kind honest hearts stand the test of time. So they don’t turn every head in town but maybe they listen to you well, think about you more than themselves, care for you..make you laugh and love you just for being you! And that goofy smile or funny chuckle is now kinda attractive, right? Their nerdy, slightly geeky traits have actually become a bit cute and interesting? That’s because in time, a person’s traits and attributes become more unique and attractive to us. Those initial imperfections become your perfect peccadilloes…
