It was the showbiz conundrum that got the media world whipped up into a frenzy: Did Cheryl Cole date Derek Hough? It’s taken three long years but we’ve finally got an answer!
It’s official, Cheryl Cole ‘DID’ date Derek Hough.
Speaking at a BBC Worldwide Dancing With The Stars event in London, the professional dancer yesterday revealed: ‘We dated for a while. Absolutely we are still friends, we are very close.’
Back in 2010, shortly after she split with her husband Ashley Cole, Chezza and the Hough spent every waking hour together and even went on holiday to Tanzania but both parties refused to confirm whether they were in a relationship.
Derek, who was the choreographer and lead dancer on Cheryl’s single Parachute, from the Girls Aloud star’s album 3 Words, added that he is even matey with Cheryl’s new man Tre Holloway, adding: ‘I have not met her new boyfriend but I have heard he’s a great guy. I’m not sure she has a thing for dancers but let’s say she definitely goes for creative types.’
Then once he started talking it seems he couldn’t stop the verbal diarrhoea.
He continued: ‘I don’t speak about my time with her because I think often in this culture people take advantage of their friendships. I’ve never spoken about her because her friendship is more important to me.’
The dancer then even went on to say he had never heard of Cheryl before he was asked to work with her, so got busy with good old Google to do some detective work.
He said: ‘So I was asked to do it. I honestly took the gig because it was an excuse to come back to the UK as I hadn’t been back in so long.
‘I vaguely knew who Cheryl Cole was – in that I knew she was very popular in the UK. But I had never met her, the best I knew of her was from Google searches.’
