Dating in London can be a bit of a minefield, no? Constantly thinking up great date venues while also trying to impressing someone can be a tough challenge. There are plenty of places to go in London of course, including lots of the museums, all the gorgeous parks, vibrant street markets, and plethora of colourful eateries, but here at Lovestruck.com, we thought we’d hand-pick some specific destinations, depending on the sort you are dating:
Crafty types: Head to Drink Shop & Do
Are you dating one of those crafty or arty types who can whip up a new outfit on their sewing machine in seconds or loves to draw pictures of you when you’re not looking? Head to Drink Shop & Do in King’s Cross. Free nights include: Lionel Rich Tea, where you can pipe Ritchie’s face on a Rich Tea biscuit before dunking it, or giving it to your date; Lego Robots, where you and your date can create a Lego masterpiece and give it a name and special powers; Papier Mache Monster Mash, where you and your date can embrace your inner five year old to create a true masterpiece. All you’ll need to do is fork out for drinks and coffees.
Nerdy types: Breakfast at The Whitechapel Dining Room at the Whitechapel Gallery
Soft lighting, wooden floors and delicious food makes this café and bar the perfect dating destination for nerdy types. Head there for breakfast (which incidentally is available until 4pm, if you struggle to rise before midday at the weekends). Whitechapel hash includes sausage, chorizo, back bacon, new potatoes and dig egg for just £7.50, while the house granola with poached seasonal fruit, Greek yogurt and honey is just £4.50. Indulge your nerdy companion by checking out one of the exhibitions in the main gallery afterwards.
Fluffy types: Head to Hackney City Farm
Does your date spot a needy hedgehog a mile off? Cry at Animal City Hospital or is a fully paid up member of Greenpeace? Take them to Hackney City Farm, where they can hang out with the ducks, pigs, rabbits, calves and sheep until their heart’s content and it will cost you nothing. You really want to impress them? Push the boat out and sponsor an animal for them for a few pounds a month (just remember to take the Kleenex).
Foodie types: Grab snacks from Churros Garcia
Is your date a food snob with a sweet tooth? Take them for some nosh at Churros Garcia. Finalists in the 2010 Street Food Awards, this street food seller makes hot tubes of freshly made crunchy dough served with hot, dipping chocolate. Just £4 (including the choc), they can be found at Portobello Road Market every Saturday and every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Real Food market on London’s South Bank.
Booze hounds: Have drinks at B.Y.O.C.
This saintly spot started its life as a pop-up on the rooftop of Netil House, where hip east Londoners lounged in the sunshine, supping admittedly expensive, but delicious coconut water-based mocktails and vegan snacks. The bar has now taken up permanent residency in Ladbroke Grove. We had the delicious COCO-RITA, which dazzled us with its fresh lime juice, agave and coconut water shaken over ice served with a pinch of salt and a salt rim.
