Are you ‘headin’ down the Atlanta highway
lookin’ for a loooove getaway?’
Shake a leg and head on over to the Shake Shack, a modern “roadside burger stand” and the latest foodie export from across the pond.
As well as seeeriously tasty food, it’s a pretty fun date venue too. Situated in Market Building in Covent Garden, within the Piazza, it’s right in the heart of everything and if you sit in the al-fresco area outside you’re also likely to be entertained by classical buskers. As far as the food goes, popular choices include the SmokeShack, a bacon cheeseburger with special Shack Sauce and the Shack-cago Dog, a hot dog with all the extras. Other crowd-pleasers include the crinkle-cut Yukon fries slathered in nacho-style cheese sauce and the Shroom burger, a crisp-fried Portobello mushroom filled with melted cheese and topped with lettuce, tomato and Shacksauce. All the food is sourced from UK suppliers – the SmokeShack features British free-range Wiltshire cure smoked bacon and the flat-top dog section of the menu features a London-only Cumberland Sausage handmade using rare breed pork from Cumbria.
Tip: Try not to salivate so much that you dribble. Not the best date look.
For drinks alongside the traditional shakes and long drinks, ShackMeister Ale is on tap and specifically brewed just for Shake Shack by Broklyn Brewery in New York, while Shack Red and Shack White wine are also bottle exclusively for the chain in Napa Valley in California. And if you can squeeze in desert (good luck with that!), Shake Shack does a range of frozen custard and ‘concretes’ – as the Americans call them, which are frozen custard blended with mix-ins. Chocolate lovers will enjoy the Union Shack (chocolate custard, St. John Bakery hazelnut brownie, fudge sauce and Paul A. Young chocolate chunks and sea salt), while another favourite is Drury Lane Jam (vanilla custard, local strawberry jam, St John Bakery brown sugar biscuit and fresh banana).
Should your dog be on a ‘doggie date’, then there is even a section for your four-legged friends – the Pooch-ini is a sweet treat made with vanilla frozen custard, peanut butter sauce and Red Velvet dog biscuits!
Currently Shake Shack are hosting the British Shake Sale. Visitors to the Covent Garden branch in the month of August who donate £2 or more to the charity Action Against Hunger will receive a voucher for a complimentary hand-spun shake, worth £5. So you can date and feel virtuous at the same time!
