Aquarium? Yes, yes, we hear you. The last time you stepped into an aquarium was circa the last millennium when you were six but listen up. We think the London Aquarium makes a fab and fun first, second or even 15th date! A romantic trip to the bottom of the sea….
There’s loads to do and view to keep the conversation flowing and when was the last time you managed to take a selfie with a shark in the background, and we mean a real shark not the type that circles you on the dance floor..
Located just by the London Eye on the South Bank of the River Thames, the aquarium is home to one of Europe’s biggest collections of global marine life.
There are over 500 species from all over the world and 14 themed zones over three floors. There is plenty to do along the way, from feeding the stingrays and watching the diving displays, to special interactive discovery zones and touch pools. Along with an enormous tank of sharks, there are seahorses, octopus and the super-cute clown fish. You had to stop yourself shouting “Nemo” then didn’t you? (OK, that’s just us then.)
For the cute factor, be sure to ‘happy feet’ it to Ice Adventure, which opened back in 2011. In the special penguin viewing cave you and your date can marvel at the Gentoo penguins that live here. Or if you’re feeling really brave, you could even book a special shark-feeding experience…you’re not the bait fear not.
It’s great if a calm and tranquil date is what you had in mind but it’s not overly cheap, with standard adult passes starting at £18.36 online. We think it’s money well spent in terms of the visual wow and sheer escapism.
To avoid the queues, avoid times like school holidays or rainy Saturdays if you can. And, if your date is going well, you are right on the doorstep of loads of great bars and restaurants on the South Bank, so it would be very easy to make this a the focal point of a day with a new or existing partner.
Enjoy, tell us what you think and send those snappers to @Lovestruck.com
