Hands up if you were born in the 70’s? Er…ok, not too many of you then but are you a retro-lover? Well then journey ‘back in time’ with your date!
The Jones Family Project is an independent restaurant and bar in the heart of Shoreditch, within strolling distance from Old Street Station. Founded by a group of close friends and open from breakfast until midnight, the restaurant offers something new every time you visit, alongside fab food all year round.
Like many of the iconic 70’s sitcoms, they have a dedicated “stage set” area, which regularly changes: its latest incarnation is a gloriously retro 1970s dining room, complete with formica cocktail bar, rubbish artwork and raffia-clad Chianti bottles. The latest tasting set menu (£35 per person) showcases updated versions of 1970s inspired food, including cheese and pineapple, prawn cocktail and black forest gateau. Very Abigail’s Party. What do you mean you’ve never seen it… see, there’s a whole decade to explore!
And even better, if you’ve ever secretly wanted to give jumpsuits, headbands or flares a go they are also offering a 10 per cent discount off your food if you come dressed in all your retro glory. Just ask ya mum and dad what they wore on a date back then, then raid their wardrobe.
If 1970s isn’t your thing, don’t sweat it. The venue also has a lower level restaurant and bar area, which has cute cutout Wendy house style booth areas and orange leather chesterfield style sofas in discreet alcoves, which are perfect date territory. The menu focuses on quality ingredients, sourced from local suppliers. From Tuesday to Friday set lunch in the restaurant is only £14.50 for two courses and £17.50 for 3 courses. They also have over 90 wines on the menu, with 30 available by the glass or carafe.
The ground floor bar area is also another fab date choice and has a high tree growing in the middle for an indoor picnic feel. It is the perfect spot for late night drinking, speedy lunching on gourmet salads and soups made fresh daily, lazy weekend brunches, complete with a DIY Bloody Marys table, so you can make you own with or without guidance from the bar staff.
