If you are really looking for a unique, fun and original treat to impress your date, we have the perfect option! Parlour, based at the bottom on Kensal Green, is described by award-winning chef and owner Jesse Dunford-Wood as “an all-day and late night serving parlour” and sitting at the Chef’s Table is the ultimate treat.
Kick start your evening with drinks on the terrace – the signature cocktails include: “Not-In-Hill” a blend of Vanilla Vodka, Gypsy Lavender, Lemon & Sugar syrup, shaken over ice; a “Kensal Green Tea” made from Vodka, Apple Liqueur, Raspberry Tea & Lemon; or a “Crab Apple Bramble” with Crab Apple infused Beefeater Gin, Olde Luxters Damson Liqueur & Lemon. If beer is more your thing, the “Beeropedia” includes ten beers on tap and a further 14 locally sourced bottled varieties, or if you’re after something really special, there is even Cuvee Prestige Champagne Ale.
The Chef’s Table experience is described as a “wonderful marriage of drama, food, art and deliciousness…” and “a feast for the eyes, belly and possibly the mind too”. This is definitely second date and beyond territory for someone you are trying to wow and being tucked away by the kitchen watching the team hard at work is both intimate and fun. The only thing you’ll need to do is make sure you pace yourself, as at the Chef’s Table, you never know how far into the menu you are.
Expect treats from their regular menu, such as Chestnut Hummus with Rosemary Pitta Bread, McTucky’s Popcorn Chicken Nuggets, DIY Pheasant Eggs with celery salt and Funky French Radishes with English Butter. Oh no, it doesn’t stop there… that was just the starters! Main dishes include ‘Remarkable’ Pork Chop, Tomato & Basil Salad, Sea Trout, Samphire, Asparagus & Seaweed and Grilled Darne of Plaice, Courgettes & Lemon.
Then onto dessert… without spoiling the surprise, expect headphones complete with a bespoke soundtrack, a smoke machine and lots of chocolate, as Jesse creates a masterpiece in front of you! There is DIY Eton Tidy, with strawberries, jelly, meringue and vanilla and a Hot Strawberry Soufflé with Pink Praline for the fruity fans, Terry’s Chocolate Orange Battenberg cake and slated caramel truffles for chocolate lovers. Big kids might also enjoy the Hubba Bubba Swiss Roll and Toasted Marshmallow Wagon Wheel (which is like the one you might have had in your lunchbox, only much, much better!)
If the Chef’s Table sounds like too much or you don’t want to commit to a three-hour date, then consider a brunch or lunch here. The kitchen is open from 10am and the food is constantly evolving and seasonal. Brekkie options include Smashed Avocado on Toasted Lazy Bread, Home-Style-Hash Brown with Eggs Any Style and ‘Back Door’ Smoked Salmon & Soda Bread. You can dine here without breaking the bank and their “Little lunches” is just £10 for two courses and £12.50 for three courses.
This really is a pub with a lot of surprises. If you’re too full to walk to the nearest Tube station, they’ll even call you a cab – and you’ll probably need it!
