Here at Lovestruck, we are always on the lookout for quirky and fun date venues and we felt Drink Shop and Do deserves a special mention.
This café, based on the Caledonian Road in King’s Cross, was set up by two best friends and started life as a pop-up before becoming a permanent fixture. This girly and kooky venue is open during the daytimes through to the evening, with stuff all over the place that can be bought from retro furniture to the pictures on the walls.
Head here during the day where you can enjoy retro sweets and drinks, teas (presented in pretty teacups) and sandwiches, tarts, salads, cheese and charcuterie boards. Play scrabble or chess and pretend you are basically at home, in the living room you have always dreamed of.
In the evenings, there are alcoholic offerings on offer, including wine, beers, ciders, bubbles, a selection of 30 gins and a range of cocktails and specials, including Mrs Pepperpot with Chambord, Grand Marnier, raspberry, apple juice with fresh basil leaves and fresh ground pepper and Naughty Earl Grey, made with Tovaritch vodka, triple sec, earl grey tea, marmalade and lemon.
There is dancing on Friday and Saturday nights, with old skool choons, classics and new releases and free entry until 10pm. Expect a mix of pop, electro, hip hop and disco.
There are loads of events here, mostly dance and crafts-related. The best date-friendly ones include Lionel Rich Tea, where you can pipe Ritchie’s face on a Rich Tea biscuit with icing before ditching it, dunking it, or giving it to your date (depending on how pleased you are with your artistic efforts); Lego Robots, where you and your date can build a robot, remembering to give it a name and special powers; Elton John Glasses, where you can basically construct a pair of whacky specs to impress your date; and Papier Mache Monster Mash, where you and your date can basically papier mache anything you choose, as if you were in reception class again.
Sounds fun, no? Have you been to Drink Shop & Do? Tell us @lovestruck
