When planning a dinner date, we don’t know about you, but we are always looking for somewhere with a bar for pre-drinks, a cool vibe, great food and somewhere middling – not too expensive, yet looks like we like our date enough to spend more than the equivalent of Dominos’ pizza. Step forward Rocket ! With venues in Bishopsgate, Canary Wharf and The City in London and a restaurant in Nottingham, they have recently launched their latest addition to the portfolio, with a bar and restaurant on Kingsway in Holborn.
Situated on the floor below Club Quarters Hotel, a two-minute walk from the station, it is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is a great place to come for cocktails and drinks before dinner – there are a huge range of proseccos, champagnes and red, whites and roses on the drinks menu, alongside some seriously good cocktails. The signature cocktails include: Purple Blossom, a mix of Zubrowka vodka, lime juice, honey and lavender syrup; Crème Banane, which shakes Absolut Vanilia, homemade banana and cinnamon syrup, pineapple juice, egg white and cinnamon together; and Preserving The Southern Gardens, a blend of Southern Comfort, pineapple syrup and lemon juice, topped with ginger beer and mint leaves. There is also a range of classic, champagne and non-alcoholic cocktails. Sit up at the bar or grab one of the leather-clad booths with your date – the vibe is lively, fun and relaxing, the perfect combo for unwinding after a day in the office.
Behind the bar is the restaurant, serving dishes based on fresh and bold flavours, inspired by the combination salads originating in California, Neapolitan-style gourmet flavours and the fusion of tastes from Asia. Favourites include the rare beef and chip salad with green beans, crispy garlic, radishes, friend chilli, black bean dressing and ginger-mustard mayonnaise, the smoked chicken and caramelised red onion pizza, topped with cherry tomatoes, basil pesto and fresh rocket or the halloumi and chorizo kebab, on mooli, green mango and cucumber spaghetti with sweet roasted piquillo pepper dressing. If you have space for pud, then the pecan & treacle tart and sticky toffee pudding served with salted caramel ice cream are said to be particularly good. Famous for its enormous portions: Make sure you arrive hungry! If it’s a sunny day then you can dine al fresco on the terrace, facing Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
