Do you like great food at reasonable prices? Pitching up at weekend markets all over the capital are an ever-expanding number of street food traders, giving us more dining options than ever before. Forget bad sausages and overfried onions served out of dodgy-looking vans – today’s street food is exciting, fun, original – and most of all, delicious.
If you love good food and are planning a date this Saturday, this is a must!
What? The London Heat of the British Street Food Awards. The competition has already travelled from Birmingham to Manchester and Bristol and now Londoner’s will get the chance to say who they want to represent the street food scene at the finals in December. It will involve 20 of London’s finest street food traders, trying to win votes from their customers with normal favourites and one-off specials. Great for you – competition means you’ll be in for a grub-tastic culinary feast.
When? This Saturday July 19th, 11am-6pm
Where? Granary Square in King’s Cross, as part of Kerb’s monthly Saturday street food extravaganzas.
Who? Some of London’s best-known street food will be on offer. If savoury snacks are your thing, you’ll be able to sample everything from “The Dirty Barbie” burger, complete with two burgers, double American cheese, candy bacon, candy onion and BBQ sauce at Mother Flipper, to mouth-watering pulled pork from Miss P’s Barbecue. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, head to Batch Bakery for “The Elvis” – a brownie with banana, peanut, caramel and more peanut or Daisy Green, where you can top your frozen yogurt with things like homemade rocky road, praline, or even caramelised bacon, candied walnut and fairy fairy floss (whatever that is, but it sounds good, no?)
How? After grazing on options until your heart’s content, punters are asked to vote via British Street Food for their faves! Categories include Best of the Best, The People’s Choice, Best Burger, Best Dessert and Best Drink.
