Are you looking forward to a weekend of loving? Apparently we have more sex in August than any other month, followed by July and June in second and third place, respectively.
We’re all at it, not only because of the fact we are wearing less clothes, but also because of the effects of sunlight. Surprisingly, the recent survey by sex toy retailer Lovehoney found that February sees the least sex, despite Valentine’s Day, while December bucks the trend for the colder months, as couples snuggle up under their warm duvets and mistletoe.
There are plenty of reasons why we are all at it this month. Not only does sunshine warm us up and give us a tan, but it also releases feel-good hormones serotonin and dopamine. And men, if you’ve felt yourself oogling short skirts and skimpy tops more than often, that because you are producing up to 33 per cent more testosterone! As the ‘sunshine vit’ – vitamin D levels rise, so do the levels of this hormone.
Anyone been chatted up in the park recently? Given the eye over a glass of wine al-fresco? We also feel more flirtatious in the sun. Research from the University of South Brittany in France found that women were approached more for their numbers on hot days than they were on cloudy or overcast days – and when the sun was shining, they are most likely to dish it out.
So with August here, perhaps it’s time to strip off in more ways than one!
