We think this time of year is perfect for a mini-break. Think roaring log fires, walks in the woods and mulled wine aplenty. Are you planning on going on a road trip with a new date or partner and hunting for inspiration?
Look no further… We’ve listed some seriously romantic spots for you to check out:
Lover, Wiltshire
This little village is the perfect minibreak destination. Back in the olden days, some hopeless romantics would send their Valentine’s cards from here just to get the postmark stamped on the envelope. Situated on the edge of the New Forest National Park, head out for a walk and be sure to get a pic of you both under the ‘Lover’ road sign. And don’t mention Lover is pronounced ‘Dover’ until you’re on the way home! See www.visitwiltshire.co.uk
Barra, Scotland
The Scottish island of Barra is the most southerly inhabited island in the Outer Hebrides. Aeroplanes land on the beach and there is natural beauty in spades and barely another person for miles around. After a day looking around, cosy up with a glass of whiskey from the Isle of Barra Distillery. For more info check out www.isleofbarra.com
Exmoor National Park, Exmoor
Recently designated as an International Dark Sky Reserve – the first of its kind in Europe – if the night is clear, there is some serious stargazing and hand holding to be had here. See www.exmoornationalpark.gov.uk
Cotswolds
With stunning little villages dotted around, beautiful countryside, historic houses, quaint shops and boutique hotels and spas aplenty, we think the Cotswolds makes the ideal destination for a weekend break away. Check out www.visitcotswolds.co.uk
Windsor, Berkshire
Combine hundreds of years of history with amazing shopping and great restaurants and you have the recipe for a great day out. Explore the impossibly romantic castle and stroll through Windsor Great Park, before holing up for some private time. For more info see www.windsor.gov.uk
Lake District, Cumbria
Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth and John Ruskin are just a few names who have been inspired by the beauty of this area. One of England’s most romantic getaways, the area boasts numerous lakes, stunning scenery and miles of uninterrupted countryside. Make sure you watch the sun set over Lake Windermere.
