Bluffer’s for Lovestruck: Date Idea | Field Day

Hello Lovestruckers! It’s Friday again and Bluffer’s are back to help you plan the most memorable date of any date in the world – ever. Go big or go home. Field Day

SO WHERE DO I GO FOR THE BEST DATE EVER?
This weekend, there is only one place to head for a date of epic proportions: Field Day in Victoria Park. For those not familiar with east London, or even London, Victoria Park is not in Victoria (nothing good ever is) but in E3. That’s further east than Shoreditch but west of Stratford.

DON’T BE RIDICULOUS, I’VE SEEN THE WEATHER FORECAST
It may be due to bucket it down this weekend, but rain is a great litmus test for dating potential. If your date can’t don an on-trend yellow mackintosh and rally their sour spirits with great music and food around, then ask yourself: do you really want to date them? Sulking is not sexy and if they’re not willing to at least pretend to be having the best ruddy time of their lives for £54.50 and the sake of a good first impression, then they never will be.

OKAY FINE. BUT ISN’T THIS A BIT TRY-HARD FOR A DATE?
No. In actual fact, suggesting a super-chilled day festival for a date paints you as the sort of person who wouldn’t anxiously second-guess yourself and certainly wouldn’t use words like ‘try-hard’. (NB. This is exactly the sort of person you want to come across as at this stage of the dating game. Laughing about your well-disguised neuroses comes later.)

Committing to an all-day date is also a good test of your compatibility. You may as well find out early on if you can’t sustain conversation for longer than a couple of hours and if it turns out you’re not meant to be then you’ve got multiple stages and the London Brewer’s Market to help you get over this realisation.

ARE THE TICKETS REALLY £50 PLUS?
A ticket for Saturday is £54.50 but Sunday tickets are £38.50. Weekend tickets are £83, but we don’t recommend suggesting a two-day bender as a date – unless you met said date at a festival and are already aware of their stamina. This might sound expensive, especially as the nice food and drink isn’t included in the price of your ticket, but can you really put a price on love? You’d also do well to remember that two cinema tickets plus a smaller-than-average bucket of popcorn and a larger-than-average bucket of Coca-Cola will probably cost you about the same.

WE’RE GOING! HOW DO WE GET THERE?
It’s no good bringing your car because parking is not the done thing; best to turn up on your penny farthing instead. Make that a tandem – far friendlier. For non-hipsters, Mile End (District and Central lines) and Bow Church (DLR) are the closest tube stations.

DO SAY ‘Who are you keen to see? As long as we catch Metronomy (Saturday)/Temples (Sunday) I’m happy to follow your lead.’

DON’T SAY ‘I don’t like music all that much.’
