Before you think we’ve gone crazy: listen in. Most all have a small percentage of nerd in us, even if we’re not prepared to admit it, while others are, well, super nerdy. Forget Mr Cool or Miss Popular, Mr ‘look at my flash car’ or Miss ‘check out my designer handbag.’ Long term lovin? The quiet, thoughtful non-bragging nerds make the best partners of all.
So! With the Bank Hols firmly in our sights and some times on our hands, here’s why we think you should spend time ‘good nerd-hunting’:
Why is dating a nerd so interesting?
Nerds are passionate people. They have a proven capability to dedicate themselves to something they feel passionate about. Whether it’s strange food, Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, French films or Comic books, they will have one or two things that they are crazy about. When asked what we are into, the rest of us may reply, “Well you know, a bit of this… a bit of that,” while a true nerd will launch into intense conversation about their topic of choice. It says a lot about their approach to life and you’ll never get bored.
OK, but our interests might be different?
Don’t fret. Even if you’re obsessed with sites like stuffonmycat.com, your nerdy date won’t judge you. They don’t care what people think of them, so they are likely to whole-heartedly encourage you to embrace your uniqueness, too. They are well meaning, sincere and very intelligent (that’s an attractive trait) so try to find common ground.
Where will you find a nerd this Bank Hols?
Easiest way of all – just switch on your computer because you are likely to find them online dating being mad about technology. They may be almost surgically attached to the Internet but if they’re looking for love, this can only be a good thing, right? Check under ‘hobbies’ ‘likes’ and ‘occupations’ Scientists, mathematicians, astrophysics geeks are good indicators of nerdishness…
Sounds good! But do they make good partners?
Without a doubt they do. There is no game playing and messing about and they are surprisingly in tune with their feelings. If they open up, it means like you a lot. However, expect to have as many rows as the next couple –and always be prepared to explain yourself in a logical manner. They value honesty and directness, so say it how it is. Relationship problems? They’ll solve them practically and logically.
Where would we ‘nerd-out’?
Think unconventional options: Laser Quest, Forbidden Planet, Mi6 HQ, Sherlock Holmes Museum on Baker Street, Platform 9 3/4 (Kings Cross), Greenwich Observatory, Science Museum…
What if they are really unfashionable?
Well, here’s the thing, you can offer tips and hints about fashion, hairstyles or even music and they are likely to soak it all up and in some cases, be more than happy for you to give them a complete style overhaul.
Will I like their friends?
Probably. Mostly nerds hang out with other nerds, so it will be a reprieve from the normal raucous girls and guys night out, where your other half rolls in half cut, clutching a dodgy kebab. If you want to stay in with a tub of ice cream, your partner will be more than happy to curl up next to you.
Embrace their nerdy ways. Enjoy learning from them. They could open up a whole different world..
Do you fancy bagging a nerd? Are you a self-confessed nerd? Tell us why you are great to date (in a way the rest of us can easily understand please) @lovestruck
