Top 5 healthy date bites

Are you having a dry January? Wanting to lose a few pounds? Hoping to ditch those big hearty meals in favour of something altogether more nutritious? With the New Year comes all sorts of resolutions about healthy eating and weight loss plans so we thought we’d list some of the best date spots to find some healthy food, so your dating life doesn’t suffer while you are on a health kick. Here are some of our favourites:

FoodForThoughtFood For Thought, Covent Garden
Located on Neal Street in the heart of Covent Garden, this small veggie restaurant, which has become something of an institution, has a small menu combining freshly prepared hot meals, salads and cakes. The food offerings change daily but you can expect colourful salads, light quiches and vitamin-packed stews. Great for a lunch date, the food is inexpensive and the setting is small but convivial, so no awkward silences, just great chat and yummy food.

TheGrainStoreThe Grain Store, King’s Cross
This restaurant, which opened in 2013, comes from acclaimed chef Bruno Loubet and the team behind The Zetter Group. The industrial chic venue is located in Granary Square and while there are meat and fish dishes on offer, vegetables have a starring role on the menu. Brunch here is delicious – highlights include quinoa granola with olive oil and fennel pollen and goat’s yogurt and Cuban vegetable empanada, rum-pickled cucumber and onion. If you’re craving something sweet, we recommend the baked apple, rosemary crumble, crème fraiche and salted caramel sauce or the sweet potato doughnuts filled with citrus curd, dill and vodka ice cream.

PortobelloThe Portobello Organic Kitchen, Notting Hill
Everything at this Notting Hill eatery is made from scratch, from the signature bread, to the ketchup and the pizzas. Committed to using organic food and natural ingredients, all the produce is sourced from organic growers and local farmers (most from just around the corner on the market). The dining room is cosy and compact filled with chunky wood furnishings and black and white photos of Portobello Market.

TheGoodLifeThe Good Life, Chelsea
This Sloane Square café and deli dedicates itself to healthy food, making them as delicious as possible. It was founded by childhood friends Yasmin and Shirin, who became frustrated with the lack of quick and healthy bites in London and there is a focus on fresh, locally sourced produce. You can expect a huge mixture of salads, sandwiches and guilt-free cakes on offer, with a load of gluten-free options too. If you need to get the taste buds going, check out their Instagram feed and we can guarantee you’ll want to hop straight onto the tube. They don’t take bookings though – so get there quick!

DetoxKitchrnThe Detox Kitchen
The Detox Kitchen started as a food delivery service, serving the likes of Elle Macpherson and Pixie Geldof but now there are two Detox Kitchen delis, one based in Harvey Nichols and the other is on Kingly Street near Oxford Circus. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner or takeaways. Another great lunch or breakfast date spot, there is a wide range of fresh seasonal salads, lean meat and fish, fresh smoothies, juices, teas and coffees on offer. Many of the offerings are wheat, dairy and sugar-free.
