Being single at Christmas can feel tough. Firstly, happy couples seem to be everywhere strolling hand in hand in matching Christmas jumpers and full of flirty festive frolics. Then there’s the never ending run of tear-jerking romantic movies where the girl normally gets the guy. But singles! Instead of going all bah-humbug on love, we’ve decided to throw an extra sprinkle of Christmas cheer with some top reasons as to why having a single status at Christmas actually ain’t so bad…
There are no hideous shopping trips: There is absolutely nothing worse than trailing after your boyfriend or girlfriend in the Christmas shopping crowds as they try to decide what to buy their Nan for Christmas. Forget running the gauntlet around shopping bags, badly-dressed Santas and screaming children, you can chill out with a latte and muffin and watch the world go past instead. Bliss!
You can do Christmas on a budget: Are you saving up for something special? Christmas is one of the most expensive times of the year so being on your own will save you a lot of pennies. Money is the number one argument for most couples, so you can just spend away, knowing you only have yourself to answer to. In fact, it is the perfect opportunity to buy yourself something amazing. Bonus points if you wrap it and put it under the tree.
You can have romantic liaisons under the mistletoe: Christmas is party season and the best thing about being single is that you can flirt and kiss whomever you please. Just go easy on the mulled wines OK?
You can be in charge of the remote: Downton Abbey vs. Doctor Who vs. Coronation Street. Just what are you going to watch over the hols? If you’re single the answer to this is whatever you like. No tussling over the remote – or the tin of Quality Street for that matter. Win-win!
You’re in charge of the diary: With no one else to please, you can spend Christmas doing exactly what you like, where you like, when you like. No issues about having to spend time with a partner’s aged relatives or not-so-great mates, you can choose to be with your own family and friends, go off on a far-flung holiday or even volunteer at a local shelter and put a smile on someone else’s face.
You can embrace the festive gluttony: Weight: 140Ibs. Mulled wine consumption: Er, can’t remember. Mince pies: 8. Quality Street: All of them. So what!?
But don’t get too used to that single status: Boxing day onwards to end of January is our busiest time for new memberships and new opportunities…
Feeling more positive? Great!
