Some days there is simply nothing better than an ice-cold beer to quench the thirst! If you are a beer lover, who is dating a beer lover, or just looking for some ‘pint sized’ date inspiration, check out our latest idea which starts this Saturday.
What? London Beer City Described as “a week-long, city-wide festival, which will celebrate London’s beer renaissance”, we think its safe to say that if you love beer, you need to be taking part. Expect events at bars, pubs and breweries in the capital, alongside mini-festivals, dinners and tours. The event takes place during the same week as the Great British Beer Festival, at London’s Olympia, where there are 900 ales, ciders and beers ready for the tasting!
Another highlight is the London Craft Beer Festival at Bethnal green’s Oval Space. Back for its second year, the event showcases the produce from 24 breweries from London, Europe and beyond, alongside some fantastic street food. The tickets include as many “small pours” as you can manage, as well as four one-third pint measures of your choosing, all served in a branded tasting glass. Other events include a live brew using ingredients foraged by members of the public, the opening of a new bar basting a huge number of different beers and a talk matching beers to pieces of music.
When? 9-16 August 2014
Where? All across the city, there will events in easy reach of most Londoners. It’s not just about London-based breweries, the likes of Windsor & Eton and Siren; both located west of the capital have events planned. Check out the website for a full schedule.
Who? Heap of breweries are taking part, including Beavertown who are hosting a surprise event, a Live Brew event at Brewdog Shepherd’s Bush and an open day at Islington’s brewery, Hammerton . There is food and beer matching at Caravan in King’s Cross and The Euston Tap is running a Czech beer festival all week.
Why? “The point of the festival is to put great beer within reach of every Londoner,” said event organiser Will Hawkes. “London’s historic brewing and beer-drinking tradition has been revived over the past few years – we want to celebrate that.”
Tip: Leave your beer goggles at home.
