So you’re stuck at work staring out of the window and dreaming of warm sand beneath your toes, reclining in a sun lounger, sun cream in one hand, ice cream in the other? If you’re not heading off to foreign climes this summer, or still have a few more weeks before you do, don’t worry! London, yep, London has a small selection of beaches to enjoy with a date!
Here they are (Cue: All Saints soundtrack to The Beach).
Camden Beach
Located at Camden’s Roundhouse, this little slice of paradise attracted 40,000 visitors last year. There is 150 tonnes of sand, pretty beach huts, an array of deckchairs, a rooftop garden, swimming pool, ping pong, end-of-the-pier amusements and live music. There is also lots of food and drink on offer and 2-4-1 cocktails at the Tiki Bar and Rum Shack-a-lack all night on a Monday and from 5-7pm from Tuesday to Friday. Get there before August 23!
Southbank’s Festival of Love Beach
Anyone in possession of a bucket and spade can satisfy their castle-building desires here. The Southbank Centre’s popular riverside beach, located on Queen’s Walk, has returned to the area as part of the Festival of Love. Running until September 14, it is open every day for Londoners to enjoy!
On Blackheath Beach
The seaside has come to Blackheath this summer as the grounds of The Conservatoire have been transformed into an urban beach with a pop up café, street food, live music, beach huts, Punch and Judy and family fun. Entrance to the events is free but there are a small number of reserve spots, so get in quick! Runs until August 29.
Bishop’s Park Urban Beach
Located in Fulham, Bishop’s Park was restored in 2011/12 as past of £8million improvements. The aim of the beach, which is open year-round, was to recreate the Edwardian times, when people across the capital descended on ‘Margate Sands’ every summer. Grab a book in your hand, sit back and pretend you are on holiday!
Royal Victoria Beach
More than 200 tonnes of sand was used to create London’s biggest beach in Newham last year. Big enough to fit ten London buses on it, it hosts a range of festivals and activities including workshops, live music and performances. Open from Monday to Sunday 10am-8pm, until August 31.
