Top 5 most annoying bed habits

Ahh, there’s nothing quite like snuggling up in bed with a new partner, chatting into the small hours, cuddling and keeping each other warm, until, that is, they start snoring, or worse. Sharing a bed can be that make or break moment in a relationship because if you’re used to sleeping alone, then having another body squashed into your bed can take some getting used too.

SnoringSnoring: This is possibly the most common gripe and was actually the third most common reason for divorce back in 2010. A survey last year by bed retailer Dreams revealed that 52 per cent of people said their partner’s snoring disturbed them at night. There are many things that can help, including sprays, nose strips and herbal remedies (personally, we also like to use the quick “kick in the leg” technique!).

Fidgeting: Four in ten people surveyed by Dreams said their partner fidgeted in bed and some people suffer from what is known as Restless Leg Syndrome, which causes involuntary twitching – and getting a foot in the leg or ribs if you are sharing with someone who suffers from this. Annoying! According to doctors, restless legs are caused by a chemical imbalance in the body but can be remedied by cutting out caffeine, sugar and alcohol before bed and sticking to regular sleep patterns.

Sleep talking: If you’ve ever shared with a talker, you might have heard things like “the giant snake is in the bed”, “the Queen is coming for lunch” or even some naughty swear words. There isn’t much you can do about this one, except have a listen and a giggle or buy some earplugs and zone out or move into the spare room when your partner gets chatty!

Duvet hogging: I think it’s safe to say we’re all guilty of this once in a while. The sausage manoeuvre, which basically involves rolling yourself in the duvet was cited a reason by one of the Lovestruck team for dumping one girlfriend. Time to share people, or at least invest in one of those Dragon’s Den-inspired duvets, which have lines down the middle.

coldfeetCold feet: Is there anything worse than cold feet being “warmed up” on your legs. Yeouch! No, we don’t think so either. Make your partner wear bed socks or slippers and send them to bed half an hour early, so you can warm your tootsies up on their legs instead!
