Have you ever found yourself straying whilst enjoying the sun, sand and sea on hols? New research claims that one in 20 Brits has cheated on their partner whilst on holiday – and of those, three per cent say “it doesn’t count as cheating if you’re on another continent”. Er, really?
When it comes to location Ibiza has been named the top place for cheating to take place, with 39 per cent of people polled claiming they’d be more tempted here. The island has also been named as the most likely location for people to split up with their boyfriend of girlfriend, with 48 per cent saying they would dump their partner here.
The study – dubbed the “journey of love” hoped to explore different locations from different stages of love, including having a holiday fling, being tempted to cheat and the best place to propose and tie the knot. Venice was voted the top location for a fling with 18 per cent of the vote, Paris polled as the perfect proposal venue with 24 per cent and The Maldives ranked top when it came to wedding destination with 18 per cent of the vote. New York is where 21 per cent of Britons said they go to nurse a broken heart.
The study, commissioned by travel comparison website kayak.co.uk, said that 51 per cent of Brits would choose a holiday fling based on how romantic their location was and whether it would sound good when they got home, while six per cent admitted to choosing a marriage location to make their pals envious.
When it comes to break-ups, four per cent of people have been dumped or given their partner the heave-ho whilst they were away and after splitting up with someone 23 per cent of people like to go on holiday to “find themselves” again.
