5 fab first date ideas – Liverpool

LiverpoolFirst dates can be complicated enough: Will you fancy them? Will they think you look  better in your profile pic? How can you look like you haven’t made an effort, when if fact you plan to spend half a week getting ready? Will you end up ‘walking alone?’ Will your jokes bomb…like ours just did…?

Breathe. We’ve looked into where to go and what to do, and rounded up 5 of our favourite first date ideas in Liverpool.

Here they are (oh and good luck!):

Comedy at The Slaughter House
Laughter is a great icebreaker on a first date and on first glance this venue might look like a pub, serving pints and pies to locals. Look a bit closer and you’ll see that this pub is home to one of the North West’s best comedy nights, Laughter House. Since opening its underground doors in 2004 (the club is situated in the basement), it has seen the likes of John Bishop, Sarah Millican, Stewart Lee, Dara O’Briain and Jason Manford hit the tiny stage. Tickets go quickly, so book in advance and if you’re the shy type, it might be wise to not sit near the front!

Alma de Cuba Alba
As bars go, Alma de Cuba is seriously spectacular. Set in the surrounding of a converted catholic church, complete with stained-glass windows, ornate décor and an impressive marble altar, the venue is a fabulous first date venue and is a mix of Cuban, Hispanic and Latin American influences. We recommend the Sunday Gospel Bruch, where you eat and drink, while gospel singers serenade you!

Knowsley Safari Park
In our view, dates and animals go together perfectly. And with everything to see from camels and giraffes to meerkats and bison, this makes a fun afternoon out. Many animals, including elephants, tigers, lions and giraffes all roam fee in their own open-air enclosures, so you can drive through as if you were on safari, or take the special Baboon Bus. There is also a big house, forest of bats, and a lake teaming with birdlife to explore. And if that wasn’t enough excitement, there is a fairground and a High Ropes Adventure course with zip wires, obstacles and climbing walls.

Mersey Ferry Ferry
Ferryyyyyy… Cross the Merseyyyy… For some sea air, hop aboard the Mersey Ferry, which crosses the broad expanse of the Mersey river. Try the River Explorer Cruise, a 50-minute journey, exploring the fascinating history of the city. Admire the great views and Liverpool and Merseyside’s UNESCO heritage waterfront from the deck. You can even hop on and hop off at the terminals to combine your trip with other waterfront attractions. Be warned: avoid at peak times, as you might end up jostling for space with city commuters.

Chinatown
This is the first Chinatown in Europe and home to Liverpool’s 10,000-strong Chinese community. Check out the Imperial Arch on Nelson Street, which stands at 15 metres tall and is the largest outside China. It was imported piece by piece, and has over 200 dragons on it. Wander the bustling streets before heading into one of the many Chinese eateries serving dishes from Beijing, Vietnam, Thailand, Sichuan and Quangdong. The best time to visit is in February, which sees a host of Chinese New Year celebrations take place.
