So Birmingham might have once been voted “Least Romantic City in the UK” by a TripAdvisor survey. We beg to differ having found some fabulous romantic venues to treat that special person…
Marco Pierre White Champagne Bar, The Mailbox
Incredible 360-degree views? Check. Laurent Perrier on ice? Check. Low lighting and sleek décor? Check. Situated on the 25th floor of the iconic Cube building, this is the ideal spot for pre-dinner drinks with a spot of sophistication – and a mere minute’s walk away is the celebrity’s chef’s steak restaurant, when hunger strikes. If bubbly isn’t your bag, there is a wide selection of cocktails on offer. Cheers!
The Jewellery Quarter
What could be more romantic than gazing a diamonds and beautiful jewels? The oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of the city centre, the Jewellery Quarter is a great meeting place to meander around and do some window-shopping. There are over 100 specialist jewellery retailers, designers and craftspeople, so your wallet might ache afterwards! There are many places to stop for drinks or food. For romance, we recommend The Vaults , a basement bar, boasting lavish bespoke furniture and serious sultry charm.
The Jekyll and Hyde
This seriously cool and quirky cocktail bar is a vintage-lover’s paradise. With Victorian décor and an Alice-in-Wonderland-themed garden, it has bags of character. Upstairs there is the Gin Parlour, which is stocked with over 50 varieties of the spirit. For food, they offer a regular menu, alongside the Eat Me, Drink Me Gin option, available in the parlour, which offers a delicious selection of dishes, washed down with some gin cocktails, of course!
Rectory Bar & Restaurant
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, this elegant and contemporary restaurant is a hidden gem. With amazing views across 18th century St Paul’s Church outside and the interior is sophisticated and romantic. The food is top-notch, with delicious steaks, and is complemented by an affordable wine menu. A fab place to linger over a few glasses of wine and some food.
Hotel Du Vin
The largest of the Hotel Du Vin hotel chain, the Victorian red brick building is situated in the Jewellery Quarter. The rooms are chic and stylish, with kingsize beds and luxurious en-suites. For the ultimate romantic night away, book Penfolds Grange, a huge open plan suite with two stunning free-standing rolltop baths and twin monsoon showers. Start your evening at the hotel’s Bubble Lounge, where there is a menu of over 30 champagnes to choose from and see where the night takes you.
