Who said romance was dead? Um, us!
In a new survey regarding Valentine’s Day gifts 35 per cent of men apparently don’t buy their women chocolates, because they already think they are overweight.
Charming! What’s more 57 per cent of women offer to pay the whole bill when it comes to eating out on the big night. When it comes to the perfect Valentine’s night, 42 per cent of men admitted they had pretended to be ill to avoid the day, while 79 per cent of men said they would rather have a night out with their mates than their lover.
One in two of the guys questioned also revealed that they often suggested a meal out to celebrate that wasn’t on the day itself, so they could use a two-for-one meal voucher! One in four men have forgotten to buy their partner a card, whilst only one in 50 women have done the same. The poll of 500 people by gift company Prezzybox also revealed that 65 per cent of women would rather cash than a present and 47 per cent of women don’t want flowers.
Taking the question of present buying into their own hands: 75 per cent of the women questioned said they explicitly told their partners would they would like to receive. And 83 per cent of men have booked a table after being told to by their partner. Women like to keep up appearances and 66 per cent have exaggerated Valentine’s gifts when talking with their friends. Meanwhile 28 per cent of women admitted to dressing up, with the hope of receiving a marriage proposal in the big night, while 65 per cent of men admit swiftly changing the subject when their partner has mentioned marriage!
