What to do on Valentine’s Day when you’re single

So V-Day is fast approaching and you’re dreading it? Remember that things won’t necessarily feel how you think they might. In one recent ‘affective forecasting’ study in the han solo valentinesUS, people made predictions one month prior about how they would feel on Valentine’s Day and then recorded how they actually felt on the day itself.

Those who had dates overestimated how good the day would be, while the date-less predicted the day would be worse than it actually was.
And just remember: V-Day is not just for couples. Singletons, we’ve compiled a list of things you could do to entertain yourselves on the day:

See a platonic mate: Ask a guy of girl friend out for a platonic date and book a restaurant that you have been meaning to try for ages. Amuse yourselves by checking out the Valentine’s couples and guessing which ones will last by their body language.

Spend some money: You’re not spending your money on an expensive restaurant or night out with a partner, so blow some cash on yourself. Be it a massage, piece of jewellery or that new designer jumper you’ve been after; do it! Remember that you’re most definitely worth it.

Have a party: Round up all your single friends and hold an Anti-Valentine’s Day bash. Research has shown that social support has a positive affect on you mood so get some nibbles and drinks and plan that playlist. Get friends to invite their single pals. Who knows who you might meet?

Have a film marathon: Curl up with your celebrity crush – be it Angelina Jolie or Ryan Reynolds and have a movie marathon of their best flicks.

Find something new to love: Fancied learning salsa? Been meaning to try some beginner Spanish lessons? Whatever you have been meaning to try, challenge yourself to make it happen this year.

Send love someone else’s way: Give V-Day cards to the people you love like other single ralph wiggum valentinesfriends or even work colleagues. If you think this is too cheesy, aim to do some volunteer work to help out someone in need. Studies have proved this lifts out moods and makes us feel better about ourselves.

Reassess what you want: February 14th might be the right time to re-assess what you are looking for in a partner. Take some time to write down some goals and what kind of person you really want in your life. The results might surprise you.

Lovestruck Single Event: We get hundreds of singles together every week – there’s one on the 13th in London, it’s FREE, so grab some friends and check it out!

Good luck singletons! Any more advice to share with other Lovestruckers? Tell us @lovestruck
