So the saying goes, the eyes don’t lie. Girls, are you often standing at the bar/shop/tube wondering why men are talking to your chest? Personally I’ve never had this issue but many of my bigger boobed pals regularly complain, and now there is the science to prove this does happen.
According to a new study men do look at women’s bodies more than their faces. Hmm, and, so do other women, apparently!
When they are shown a picture of another woman, both sexes ogle her breasts and waist more than her face, says the research published in the journal, Sex Roles.
The science bods at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the US asked 65 students – 29 girls and 36 guys – to look at 30 pictures of 10 different women, whose shapes had been digitally manipulated from super curvy to skinny. They followed their steely gazes with a special eye-tracking device. The results showed that both the men and the women spent more time checking out the women’s bodies and also honed in on the bigger boobs, smaller waists and bigger hips. Interesting stuff, no?
Hmm, this study however, completely contradicts one earlier this year in the UK which said that 70 per cent of men noticed women’s eyes before any other trait. And the poll of 1000 men, listed a girl’s smile as next on the list, before breasts, which ranked in third place. So hang on a second… Who to believe? Well the most recent study used eye-tracking methods, while the one earlier in the year was self-reports and while most men might do it, perhaps they didn’t want to admit to going straight for the boobs. And in any case, it seems us women are checking each other out just as much.
Do you agree with this study? Guys? Girls? Who checks out boobs first? Tell us @lovestruck
