Tate Liverpool    Tate

This is the most popular gallery of modern and contemporary art outside London, so whether you’re an art geek, or just fancy a couple of hours admiring some cool artworks, this is a fab place to spend a date. Packed to the rafters with dazzling, eye-catching and interesting exhibits, you and your date are unlikely to run out of conversation. Located in the Albert Docks, it has incredible views over the River Mersey and is just a stone’s throw from loads of cafes, bars and restaurants if you want to head on somewhere else afterwards.

Sefton Park   SeftonPark
Cost: Free
A favourite with the locals, this stunning 235-acre park, located towards the south of the city is perfectly date friendly. With curved pathways surrounding by beautiful blooms for walking, a boating lake, a popular bandstand, replica statues of Eros and Peter Pan and the Palm House – a fabulous glass-fronted panelled building, there is plenty to see and do there. Take a picnic, or head to one of the cafes when you’re in need of a slice of cake. The Grade II-listed Palm House also hosts many music, art and foodie events and fairs, many of which are free to attend.

Wheel of Liverpool   Wheel

Liverpool’s answer to the London Eye, The Wheel of Liverpool will give you stunning panoramic views of the city’s famous landmarks and includes commentary. Pick the right day or evening, and this attraction is great value for money.

Cavern Walks

Situated in the city’s historic cavern quarter, this is the place to go for window-shopping of  all kinds. Home to the city’s largest collection of independent retailers and designer brands, you can ogle upmarket clobber, bespoke jewellery and one-off pieces. There are two cosy cafes: Chantilly and Lucy In The Sky, to relax in with a cup of coffee when your feet ache. Be sure to leave your credit card at home!

Crosby Beach and Another Place
Cost: Free  CrosbyBeach
This stretch of beach is now the permanent home to modern sculptures by the world-renowned artist Anthony Gormley. Another Place is 100 cast-iron, life-size figures placed along the beach and stretching out to sea. Each statue weights 650 kilos and is made from a cast of the artist’s own body. This is a great place for a hearty walk and getting to know your date better. Check the tide times, as sometimes the sculptures are under water!
